Stone Ridge, 4822 Spearhead Drive in Whistler, is located on the corner or Painted Cliff Road and Spearhead Drive. The townhouse development is in a quiet enclave, so its easy to miss. It is very easy to walk from Stone Ridge to the Base of Blackcomb: just go down Spearhead Drive and along the trail just above the Fairmont Chateau Whistler.
There are eight, similar buildings in Stone Ridge. The doors at either end of each building lead upstairs to the 3 bedroom units. The 3 bedroom units have 3 stories, which includes the entrance at street level. The other two exterior doors lead into the ground level, 1 bedroom and den suites which are sometimes advertised as a 2 bedroom suite. Each town home has a single carport and a deck, some with their own private hot tubs. Table of Contents

Built in 1988, the property has 1.5-3.5 bedroom townhouses, 32 units and each zoned for nightly rental. Table of Contents
The floor plans from the original sales brochure are pretty illegible so I have not posted them. The layout for the one bedroom and den is the same for all of the units. The only difference is that there may be stairs in the townhouse. The uphill units may have stairs from the entry up to the living room. In the downhill units there will be stairs going from the dining area down into the sitting area. The reason for this is that StoneRidge was built on a hill. It depends on the location within the complex. There are only a few one bedroom and den units where I don’t remember there being any stairs. The floor plans for the upstairs units vary. Location of Stone Ridge on Blackcomb Mountain and proximity of the Wizard Chair and Whistler Village
Stone Ridge does not have a lot of owners who rent their townhouses out nightly. The owners I met who do rent them out nightly, were pleased with the revenue produced. You can use any rental management company you wish, or you can self-manage your townhouse. Table of Contents

The ski-home trail stops at the south-end of the Stone Ridge development behind unit 17. Stone Ridge is on flat ground, so that should be easy for all levels of skiers and boarders to access the trail. The access to get to the slopes is going to take a little longer. Short walk down Spearhead Drive to the path that leads along to the Greystone Lodge, and then schuss along until you reach the slopes. The snow that falls on these paths is not removed. Your other option is to walk up the ski-home trail to get to Merlin’s Run. Either way, you are very close to the slopes. Table of Contents
The strata fee on these townhouses is very low in comparison to other townhouses in the Benchlands. Simply because there are no amenities, no underground parking, no swimming pool, no communal hot tub. Fees include:
- snow removal
- landscaping and ground maintenance
- garbage removal. Stone Ridge has its own on-site garbage station.
- chimney cleaning
- window cleaning (outside only)
- insurance of the building.
The developers and their families still own in Stone Ridge, and for some reason I was encouraged by this. They also sit on the strata council. The strata council do not seem in any rush to have a Depreciation Report prepared. I asked the former developer, who sat on the strata council why they do not retain an engineer to prepare a Depreciation Report. He replied that the council can see everything about each building (except the roof) by just standing outside the unit, so he didn’t see the need.
- Strata bylaws dictate the type of underlay to be used for any new flooring in the upstairs townhouses. My blog on the Stone Ridge Approved Underlay for gives you their recommendations.
- Strata requires you to inform them when you want to replace or install your private, outdoor hot tub. The strata council want an acoustic mat placed under every new hot tub. They recommend, Acoustic Mat Co., Vibra Sonic.
- Roof replaced in 2018
- Change in strata management company in 2018 to Alliance Real Estate Group (AWM).
There is no additional storage in Stone Ridge except what comes with your townhouse. The lobby in each Stone Ridge townhouse, could store bikes, but it would consume the lobby area. Bringing the bike upstairs in the 3 bedroom units, you could use the privacy of the hot tub deck to store your bikes. Storage for bikes in any Benchlands townhouse without a garage is challenge for some buyers.
Each townhouse has a single carport. I have seen firewood stored in the carport, but nothing else seems permitted. by the strata. There are several visitor parking spots, and there is parking available, at permitted times, on Spearhead Drive. Table of Contents
Spearhead Drive is a quiet road despite the fact that it is heavily populated with accommodation. Most people who buy in this location park the car the minute they arrive, and use the complimentary bus service. There is a free, village bus service which has a route through the Benchlands, up Painted Cliff Road and down through Spearhead Drive. This service runs about 8 times an hour in winter and just slightly less the rest of the year.
