“Woodrun, 4910 Spearhead Place, Whistler on Blackcomb Mountain is one of the few concrete buildings in the Benchlands. The  benefit is the natural (concrete) soundproofing in the building especially between floors. In addition to that benefit, the majority of the Woodrun condos have some of the best natural light in the Benchlands.

The Woodrun has a lot going for it with the swimming pool which is a year-round rental attraction. It is also steps from Merlin’s Run on Blackcomb Mountain, and easy walking distance to the Base of Blackcomb. You should be able to enjoy or generate rental income year-round in the Woodrun.

However, the Woodrun needs a care-package, and soon. The exterior of the building is going to need a facelift soon. The corridors are looking, not tired, but absolutely exhausted. When you consider that condos are selling in the $1 million to $2 million dollar range, the exterior and the interior common areas are going to have to be upgraded soon…and that means an assessment will be coming down to the owners.

For those owners who have gained in the last two years by the huge increase in value in the market…we don’t expect to hear any complaints from you regarding the assessment amount. Keep in mind that the Aspens spent a small fortune on the inside of the building, and after that the demand for the condos soared. This was back in 2012, and before the market took off in 2016. If that trend repeated itself, it means that if you buy in the Woodrun now, there should be an increase in value once the interior renovation has been completed – whenever that is.” – Marion.

About the Woodrun

The Woodrun is located at 4910 Spearhead Place. It is a fully concrete building so that means it has excellend sound-proofing, which is one of its main selling features. It is another true ski-in ski-out location with a heated walk-way right to the Wizard run on Blackcomb Mountain.  The Woodrun is a hidden gem as it is 200ft off Spearhead Drive, so it is a very quiet location.

The Woodrun, in the Benchlands, is further up the hill than the Greystone Lodge, and the Aspens so it is a slightly longer walk to the Base of Blackcomb, but really, it is not that much further. The Benchlands is serviced by a complimentary bus (see table of contents).  The condos on the south side of the Woodrun have an unrestricted view (which means no trees blocking the south/west sunshine) so these condos get terrific sunlight for most of the day. Ski-in ski-out access at the Woodrun

Riding the Wizard Express the Woodrun location jumps out. This is because it is steps away from Merlin’s run while other properties are set back, the Woodrun is bang on the slopes.  Merlin’s Run leads down to the Wizard Express, quad chair at the base of Blackcomb Mountain.  The Blackcomb Mountain world-class groomers do a great job of moving snow around on these lower slopes. This means that the properties located on Blackcomb Mountain remain a true ski-in and ski-out even if the snow has started to disappear from the lower slopes in Spring. Return to table of contents.

Strata highlights at the Woodrun

Whenever I have access to the minutes, I take the opportunity to add the information to the highlights. Unfortunately, I am not permitted to post links to the minutes:

  • No smoking anywhere in, on or around the building.
  • On-site building manager who has a suite in the Woodrun. This is a major expense of the strata.

Storage at the Woodrun

The storage in the Woodrun is the best of all the Blackcomb Mountain ski-in ski-out condo buildings. The reason is that the access to these rooms is off the lobby, past the front desk. In other buildings, the storage is down in the gunnels of the underground parking:

  • in-suite storage is a closet with a lock. This seems adequate to hold winter clothing and boots.
  • ski/board storage for guests off the main level.
  • ski/board storage for owners in the underground garage. This storage room seemed very secure and is not in an obvious area for anyone to come across.
  • communal bike storage in the underground garage.

Parking at the Woodrun

There is gated, underground parking for the Woodrun. The number of spots per condo is detailed in the Form B. Count on one parking spot for a one and two bedroom condo. Parking spots are at a premium in the Benchlands  Return to table of contents.

Transit bus service to the Woodrun

The location of the Woodrun is an easy walk to the Base of Blackcomb and from there to Whistler Village.  There is a free, village bus service which has a route through the Benchlands. This service runs about 8 times an hour in winter and just slightly less the rest of the year.
