“It can be confusing to navigate your way, around the rental rules for Le Chamois, 4557 Blackcomb Way, Whistler. Let me help clarify this for you. When you buy a studio, or a 1 bed and 1 bath, or a 1 bed and 2 bath condo you are obligated to use Whistler Premier as your rental manager. If you have the budget for a multi-million dollar condo on the 5th or 6th floor, then you are not obligated to use Whistler Premier. In conclusion you may want to as they are an excellent, established, rental property management company.
Some condos have a full kitchen, some do not. It has all to do with the location of the unit and the potential stove. Adding a stove has to be looked into on a per unit basis. Unfortunately, this inquiry can only be made to the strata by the owner of the condo. This really hampers the sale of the condos, as a buyer cannot inquire or get approval that a stove will be permitted in the considered unit.
Another factor is that hardwiring Le Chamois for adding in stoves is not feasible for every condo. This would cost a small fortune in addition to the venting for the stove’s exhaust. It is easy to see why the strata council at Le Chamois are not pro-active in getting every condo a stove.
In summer, right outside Le Chamois, is the Farmers Market on Wednesday and Sunday. Most noteworthy is the Family Adventure zone which is set up from May through September. The Mallard Bar at the Fairmont Chateau Whistler is across the way, and Merlin’s patio is one of the best for value and sunshine. You may find yourself wondering about the last time you were in the village.” – Marion.

This is a condo, ski-in ski-out property next to the Blackcomb Day Lodge. Le Chamois offers spacious suites and those at the side facing up Blackcomb Mountain enjoy superb mountain views. For those on the side of the property overlooking Blackcomb Way, offer views of Rainbow Mountain.
The property has a front desk, outdoor roof-top swimming pool and hot tub, ski/board lockers and bike storage, exercise room, underground parking and shared laundry facilities. Some of the original units may still have a hot tub in the room, courtesy of the 1980’s!
Le Chamois has a restaurant on the ground floor, and is opposite the Fairmont Chateau Whistler. This area of the Benchlands is called called the Upper Village, and is typically a quiet neighbourhood at night. Most visitors wanting action are hopefully staying in the Village.
In summer there is an excellent Farmer’s Market and the Base of Blackcomb Activity Centre which are both located outside Le Chamois. It is a very easy walk from the Upper Village along the scenic trail to the village. It is well lit, and well travelled path over the Fitzsimmons Creek, and in winter this route is cleared of snow, so walking should be uneventful. Table of contents.

Built in 1989, the property has studios to 4 bedroom suites, 62 units and is zoned for nightly rental. Floors 5 and 6 are zoned as residential, but do have nightly zoning status. This way 15% of the building can be assured to stay residential and thereby ensure that the building retains its residential status for property tax purposes. Le Chamois has a front desk managed by Whistler Premier, which is a well established, and well operated rental/strata management company. If you are buying a studio, or a 1 bed and 1 bath, or a 1 bed and 2 bath you are obligated to use Whistler Premier as your rental company. This means that you cannot advertise on Vacation Rental By Owner (VRBO) or any other platform promoting your own condo. The 5th and 6th floor have the option to self-manage or use the rental management company of their choice. If you want to self-manage your studio or one bedroom condo, Le Chamois is not the building for you.
It is rare, but some studio and one bedroom condos have a full kitchen, with a stove. If the listing realtor has not said whether a stove could be added, you should ask your realtor to find out. However, you may be disappointed by the lack of decision on this subject. The strata seems very non-committal on this topic, possibly for good reason.
Le Chamois has lock-off units, which means that some condos have one door to the hallway, and then an interior lobby which has two doors. One door leads to the studio with kitchen facilities and a bathroom. The other door leads to a bedroom and bathroom. Whistler Premier will not rent out part of the lock-off while you stay in the other part. The 1989 sound-proofing between the bedroom and the suite is not adequate for paying guests. Who wouldn’t rent in Le Chamois? It is an excellent ski-in ski-out, walk to the Village location, with a swimming pool and hot tub. Did you know that some original units still have the couples hot tub in the living room? I had a client who bought a studio which had the tub in the living room and they had no problem renting it out. There is an advantage to this ski-in ski-out location over the properties further up in the Benchlands, and that advantage is the location to the Village.

Most photos explain that Le Chamois is really is that close to the Wizard Express quad chair and the Base of Blackcomb. There is nothing like waking up and being able to see the lift line from your window. That is living the dream. Table of contents.
Strata fees include electricity, cable, and gas which are included in the strata fees. The main costs are the outdoor pool on the roof and the outdoor hot tub on the roof. Having a pool and a hot tub is an expense which does not get any cheaper.

Unfortunately, publishing the Le Chamois strata minutes is prohibited because they are not public documents. Most noteworthy is the Le Chamois depreciation report which is available to you. It is especially relevant that you receive and read a copy of the depreciation report before considering an offer.
Storage in Le Chamois
- Ski and board storage lockers are located in the building with easy access to the exterior. These are on the second level above the front desk and reception area.
- Bike storage takes over from the ski and board storage room, again with a great access to and from the outside.
- There is an in-suite storage for owner belongings. You can create as much in-suite owner storage as you wish.
Parking in Le Chamois
There is visitor parking and assigned parking in Le Chamois. The front desk manager will advise your guests about where they can park. When you purchase in Le Chamois, the Form B which is requested as part of the offer, will let you know which stall is yours. Table of contents.

The location of Le Chamois is steps away from the Base of Blackcomb and the scenic route by the Fitzsimmons Creek to Whistler Village. There is a free, village bus service which has a route through the Benchlands passing by Le Chamois. This complimentary bus service runs about eight times an hour in winter and just slightly less the rest of the year.
